How to Prevent Delivery Damage on the Stop

Crew handling tactics that prevent product and property damage on the stop, before a claim is ever filed.

  1. 1. Treat the path as part of the product

Most damage happens between the truck and the room, not in the carton. Walk the route, pad the tight spots, and move rugs that will slide before the first lift.

  2. 2. Photograph condition before you commit to the carry

Take a shot of the carton, the path, and any existing wall marks. This is handling discipline at the stop, not a claims write-up after the fact.

  3. 3. Wrap, don't rush, through every doorway

  4. 4. Keep hardware, tools, and debris off finished surfaces

  5. 5. Place the item, then inspect the path you used

  6. 6. Leave the stop cleaner than the arrival photo

Tools

  • Floor runners and corner pads
  • Furniture blankets and stretch wrap
  • Door-jamb protectors
  • Gloves with grip
  • Phone camera for condition photos

Safety tips

  • If the path is wet, icy, or blocked, stop and reset — forcing a carry is how product and people get hurt.
  • Do not use the product as a dolly.
  • Call a second set of hands before you guess at a tight turn.
