  1. 1. Default position: do not make the gas connection

Treat every gas dryer as not connectable by the delivery crew unless all of the following are true and documented: you hold the license or qualification wherever local rules require one, your program has written authorization and training covering you for gas connections, the manufacturer instructions for this model are present, and the approved parts those instructions specify are on hand. If any item is missing, deliver and place the unit, leave it disconnected, and escalate.

  2. 2. Check the local rule before the unit comes off the truck

Many jurisdictions and 3PL contracts reserve gas connections for a licensed technician. Confirm the requirement for this address up front so you are not making the call in a laundry room. This guide is crew guidance, not a license and not legal advice.

  3. 3. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, stop work and leave

Do not operate any switch, light, or appliance and do not use a flame. Do not touch, tighten, or manipulate the valve, the connector, or the dryer. Leave the area, warn the occupants to leave with you, and from a safe distance outside call the emergency number, the gas utility, and dispatch as your procedure directs. Manipulate equipment only if your written emergency plan explicitly assigns that action to qualified personnel and you are that person.

  4. 4. Verify the fuel type and unit match without altering anything

  5. 5. Inspect the site and record what you find

  6. 6. Do not commission a gas dryer on a heat cycle

  7. 7. Escalate and document the handoff

Tools

  • Work order plus your program's written authorization for gas work
  • Manufacturer installation instructions for this model
  • Tape measure for clearance and venting inspection
  • Flashlight for inspection only — keep it off if gas is suspected
  • Phone for photos and dispatch, used outside the home if gas is suspected

Safety tips

  • Assume you may not make the gas connection until authorization, qualification, local rules, manufacturer instructions, and approved parts are all confirmed in writing.
  • Suspected gas odor or leak: no switches, no flames, no handling of the valve, connector, or dryer. Leave, warn the occupants to leave, and call emergency services, the gas utility, and dispatch from outside.
  • Never remake, tighten, or test a gas joint to chase a suspected leak.
  • Stop and refer the work to a licensed technician wherever local rules require one. This is crew guidance on scope and stop conditions, not a license and not legal advice.
