How to Hook Up a Washing Machine (Delivery Crew Guide)

Washer hookup for delivery crews: the authorization and training gates that come first, then leveling, connections, and leak checks.

  1. 1. Confirm the work order authorizes the hookup

Do not connect anything until three things are true: the work order lists the hookup in scope, your program has documented training for this class of appliance and you are covered by it, and local rules permit a delivery crew to make the connection at this address. If any one is missing, deliver and place the unit, leave it disconnected, and notify dispatch.

  2. 2. Work from the manufacturer instructions for this model

The instructions packed with the unit are the procedure. Do not substitute habit or another model's sequence. If the instructions are missing, or they call for parts, tools, or steps outside your documented program, stop and escalate instead of improvising.

  3. 3. Inspect the existing connections before you touch them

Confirm the hot and cold valves close fully, that the existing supply and drain are the types the instructions require, and that there is a grounded receptacle matching the nameplate. Corroded, seized, non-conforming, or missing connections are a stop-and-escalate condition, not something to adapt around.

  4. 4. Remove shipping restraints and set the unit as specified

  5. 5. Make only the connections the instructions cover

  6. 6. Commission only if the model procedure authorizes a powered test

  7. 7. Document what you did and did not complete

Tools

  • Manufacturer installation instructions packed with the unit
  • Only the hoses, washers, and drain retainer the manufacturer specifies for this model
  • 4-foot level
  • Bucket, towels, and a dry cloth for leak checks
  • Flashlight

Safety tips

  • Assignment is not qualification. If your program has no documented training for this hookup, do not make it.
  • If a supply valve will not close completely, leave the connections as you found them and call dispatch.
  • Keep the unit unpowered unless the manufacturer procedure and your work order explicitly authorize a powered test.
  • Never lift a washer by the lid or control panel.
